DLP: Easy to Fail, Hard to Master
With the sudden rise of data protection and privacy regulation, Australian businesses are dusting off their data classification policies and leaping into implementations of technologies that will protect them from being the next news headline. At the centre of all these silver bullets is Data Loss Prevention, which vendors promise will stop rogue employees and malicious insiders in their tracks and set alarm bells ringing if John Doe in the customer call centre sends customer data to the wrong person!

We’ll dive into learnings from being involved in over 50 DLP and Data Protection programs exploring why DLP as a capability, and a technology, has a tendency to end in failure and what you can do about it.

Dean is Director and Principal at Wardn, a specialist DLP and Data Protection consultancy and managed service provider.

As a data loss prevention subject matter expert, Dean has been an advisor to or delivered a significant portion of the DLP implementations in Australia across almost every industry, including major banks, federal government, retail, medical, resources and many more.
