Cloud Migration lessons from the front line

Cloud is an abused term, like agile, DevOps and web. The reality in the Cloud paradigm is that you can no longer touch (or lock away) your physical assets that provide digital services to your organisation, raises many questions; but the reality is that they’re probably more physically secure in the Public Cloud than they previously were. The only responsibility you have now is the logical configuration and access control to your information.

Lessons from the front line recaps the learnings we have seen taking customers on the cloud migration journey over the last half a decade or more, here in Western Australia. Some of these lessons are technical, but most of them are non-technical governance, risk mitigation and compliance related.

Speaker: James Bromberger, National Cloud Lead and Consulting Director, Modis

James started commercially writing web content in 1996. Now after nearly 20 years as a Debian Linux developer (volunteer) means 20 years of personal op-sec, and following time working for Canon Europe and Amazon is one of the world's leading experts in AWS Cloud, Linux and Open Source. He has lead technical teams across Europe, the US and Australia in the fields of Higher Education, Finance, Advertising, and Government, and more recently has lead the cloud-based design and deployment of the Advara Land Registry as a Service (LRaaS) for Landgate, the Western Australian Land Registry. His day job sees him as Modis Consulting Director and National Cloud Lead, as well as an advanced trainer in web security, cloud security and operations.

Participants will have the opportunity at the end of the presentation to ask questions of the speaker.

Please join us at the end of the presentation for light freshments.
