Perth Sep 14: Minimum Viable Security baseline for organisations

Industry event
Hear about the approach taken to develop the MVS: the standards, surveys and breaches assessed, the analysis performed and, importantly, what controls form part of the MVS and which have been excluded
Topic: The information security industry is awash with mandates, standards, surveys, breaches, trends and forecasts, and a variety of other factors that may influence an organisations approach to protecting their data and information services. Working out where to start, what to focus on, and what will give you the best return on security investment can be difficult.

With this problem in mind, the idea to establish a baseline set of controls to be adopted by organisations – termed Minimum Viable Security (MVS) - has been defined. MVS borrows the concept of Minimum Viable Product – which largely aims to achieve the highest return on the initial release of a product with the least investment possible, with further investment to improve and enrich the product over time only after the initial product has proven its success.

In this month’s presentation Aaron Doggett will detail the approach taken to develop the MVS: the standards, surveys and breaches assessed, the analysis performed and, importantly, what controls form part of the MVS and which have been excluded.

Speaker: Aaron Doggett, Regional Director at Hivint

Aaron Doggett has been working primarily in governance and risk related aspects of information security for almost 15 years and is currently a Regional Director at Hivint. At Hivint, Aaron runs the WA office and provides advisory services to government and private industry.
