Skills Panel Part II
The NSW Department of Education is developing
resources for the draft updated NSW computing syllabuses that include cyber
security.
The latest development includes:
- The
NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) published the draft versions of
the Stage 6 (year 11&12) Computing courses: Enterprise
Computing and Software Engineering. NSW Cyber Connect has reached
out to industry to invite feedback to NESA on the draft syllabuses.
- NESA
is in the process of finalising the new Stage 5 (Year 7-10) Integrated Computing syllabus. It is expected to be
released later this year.
- The
iSTEM 4.0 course is being developed to incorporate cyber security content.
iSTEM is a school developed board endorsed course which is currently
taught in 285 schools across NSW. It has been identified as best practice
in several publications and was a recent Case Study in the Defence
Industry Skilling and STEM Strategy. (See Page 21 - 22) http://www.defence.gov.au/SPI/Docs/IndustrySkillingSTEMstrategy.pdf
With all these new developments, it is an
opportune time for our industry to learn what is happening in education and the
time frames for implementation of the new courses. It is also an opportunity to
add value to the new content by providing feedback and support from an industry
perspective, so that the NSW Department of Education can provide the most
current knowledge to our next generation of cyber security professionals.
It is time to have your say, and AISA, as the
peak professional body, is the best party to enable this to happen.
Purpose
- Find
out what the NSW Department of Education and NESA are doing to support
cyber skills development in K-12.
- Discover
how industry can support education in NSW in implementing the new
syllabuses.
- One
of the challenges for the education system is being attuned to current
industry practice and perspectives. How industry can be connected and
involved?
If bridging education and industry is
meaningful to you, please come and join the discussion.

Draft Syllabuses
Skills are an important theme of the NSW Cyber Security Industry Development Strategy. The NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) has recently published draft versions of the Stage 6 (meaning year 11 and 12) Computing courses: Enterprise Computing, Enterprise Computing Life Skills and Software Engineering.
These documents are lengthy, however there are specific topics that address cyber security and data security. Please search the word "security" to locate those relevant areas.

Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions of the speakers at the end of the presentation.
Light refreshments will be served after the presentation.
