Perth Branch Meeting - February 11

Join us at the AISA Perth Branch for the first meeting of 2020 with guest speaker Bill Perger discussing his perspective as a volunteer in a Cambodian hospital and their Information Security and Data Management practices

Topic: Information Security and Data Management practices in Cambodia - a volunteers’ perspective
In 2019, through the Australian Volunteers Program, an initiative of the Australian Government, Bill Perger volunteered in a hospital in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh.  During Bill’s year at the Sihanouk Hospital Center of HOPE Bill’s role was as an IT Development Advisor working with a team of talented Cambodian staff. The focus of Bill’s assignment was to improve Information Security and Data Management Practices at the Hospital through introducing contemporary concepts and techniques with the aim toward capacity development of the local team, ‘contributing to meaningful change’.

In this largely non-technical session Bill will share his experiences as a volunteer in Cambodia, his observations on the maturity and current state of ICT and Information Security sector in Cambodia, and the challenges faced by organisations in Cambodia. Bill will also discuss the parallels with the challenges we face with cyber-security in Australia and reflect on the opportunities for organisations in the region.
