Sydney Branch Meeting 20th March

Sydney Day Month: Meeting Name
Join us at Maritime Union of Australia to hear from Kayne Naughton on Threat Intellegence, and Leon Manson on Microsegmentation.

Topic1: 2Fast2Curious: How not to waste a stack of cash on threat intelligence.

Threat Intelligence has been the "next big thing of the year" for a few years now and most organisations (in our experience) think everyone else is way ahead of them.
This talk will try to get attendees up to speed with the current state of the art and answer such leading questions as:

  • What really is intelligence?
  • What problems can threat intelligence actually solve (and how)?
  • Why did you say the intel feed I'm buying probably isn't intel?
  • We just took the shrinkwrap off our SIEM and plugged in our IDS, should we be buying 3 feeds and hiring for a hunting role right now?
  • How do I know if we're ready for an intel function?
  • How do I collect more intelligence?
  • Oh no, what have I done, how can I get rid of some of this intelligence?
  • Is emailing around PDF reports and copying domains out of them a good use of my time or should I be sharing with a structured intelligence format like STIX?

Speaker: Kayne Naughton,  Managing Director at Cosive.
Kayne Naughton is a technologist and security researcher with over 15 years experience across the education, government and finance industries.

Kayne is a regular speaker at security events, covering both the offensive and defensive perspectives.

Topic 2: Microsegmentation for the Masses

Microsegmentation & Flow Visibility is one of Gartner’s top 5 hot security technologies, but what is it and why should you care?
In this presentation you will learn what it is, what it isn’t, and how it can reduce risk and costs in your organisation.
