Topic: From IF to WHEN – Building Incident Resilient Cloud Containers
In this the session, Cloud Containers are at the forefront of cloud adoption around the globe. But as security incidents become more prevalent, are we prepared to tackle if our containers were compromised? In this talk, we explore container security from the lens of security architecture and incident response. By showcasing practical examples and demos, the first phase of the talk will map out the best practices and common pitfalls with security incidents in mind. After covering secure development, we will also know how to minimise the damage when an incident happens. We will learn how teams can build the right architecture for our Incident response team to succeed.
The second phase of the talk will focus on detection and incident response. Using various tools and techniques, we will learn to write various detection rules to help identify a breach. Furthermore, we will also the best practices and strategies you can implement during the IR process. In short, the key theme this talk will explore is reducing the impact of a security incident for containers.
Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions of the speaker and networking drinks with light refreshments will be served at the event.
Speakers:
Kaif Ahsan is a coder by passion and a hacker by profession. He started his journey in tech as a Software Engineer but soon fell in love with the art of breaking software. He currently works as a Product Security Engineer at Atlassian, where his team works on helping developers build secure products and architecture.
Kaif is a big proponent of education and open access to knowledge. He regularly volunteers to run cybersecurity workshops at various universities, gives talks at local meet-ups, and conferences and runs the YouTube channel Everything Cyber, where he shares hands-on and conversational videos on tech and cybersecurity.
Kumar Soorya is a Security Operations Consultant at Fortian, where he works with his team to aid clients with their ongoing security monitoring, threat hunting and incident response. Before his current role Soorya worked as a security engineer within a global fintech firm covering a range of different aspects from security monitoring to PCI audits.
Soorya is passionate about making knowledge about security accessible to security leaders, practitioners and students. He is one of the co-hosts of the Everything Cyber podcast where he shares hands-on and conversational videos on tech and cybersecurity.
