December 2017 - Branch Meeting Wrap

The AISA Brisbane branch is committed to a diverse and inclusive community supporting information security. We are pleased that we have increased local membership and are proud to have a diverse range of people amongst our ranks ranging from students to seasoned IT professionals, men, women, young people, older people, different backgrounds, cultures and nationalities.  As the Brisbane Branch Executive Chair I am pleased to encourage our diversity and continue to support the branch to remain relevant to our members.

In our December 2017 meeting we featured updates from a range of people involved in various aspects of security -  David Stockdale from AusCERT, Nick Coates-Lam from CERT Australia, Nicole Murdoch from Bennet and Philp and Kristine Sihto from Alcorn Group. In addition to the info security updates our meeting had a special presentation from Simon Harvey about mental health awareness and how we can all support each other.

The meeting also included our end of year social event and members happily chatted while eating some festive treats.

We are looking forward to an amazing 2018!

In February we are proud to have local member, and diversity and inclusiveness team volunteer, Mark Carey-Smith presenting at our first meeting of the year. We encourage our local members to put their hands up to present at our meetings and hope to see more active participation like this in 2018.

Our branch’s conference manager, Danel Cox is working hard with his team of volunteers to bring a fresh, relevant and timely BrisSEC18 to members, with a focus on startups and small to medium enterprises. Make sure you register for this event as paces are filling fast.

We look forward to a great year as volunteers at AISA and hope to keep our local branch fresh, interesting and relevant.

The whole Brisbane team constantly works hard to ensure the community here is friendly, informal and supportive and if you have ideas we are keen to hear them.
Please note that not all suggestions can be implemented immediately but do not let that stop you providing input. Please send your suggestions  or interest in volunteering, presenting or chairing a meeting to [email protected].
