AISA NSW Branch Event | 21 September 2023

AISA Branch Meeting
Join the AISA NSW Branch for our September event hosted by Fred Thiele (CISO Interactive & AISA NSW committee member) who will be facilitating a fireside chat with three cyber experts who didn’t get their start in cyber – Tom Heathwood (CISO - Link Group), Hope Delahunty (Organisational Change Leader) and Aparna Sundararajan (Senior Manager – CyberCX). Learn about their initial career path, their foray into cyber, and the superpowers they bring to the cyber industry.

Fireside Chat: How to get into Cyber With Industry Cyber Experts

The most traditional road to a cyber career starts with a technical university degree in computer science, followed by a few years of work experience. The diversity of skills required to service a full cyber program in an enterprise requires more than strong technical skills; it requires skills in organisational change, data analysis, economics, and creative problem solving.

Following the presentation join the speakers for Q&A, light refreshments and networking.

Speakers:

Hope Delahunty, Organisational Change Leader. Following a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources and Organisational Psychology, Hope has worked in IT integration projects in the banking, financial services and NSW Government sectors which led her to specialise in Cyber Security. She has over a decade of experience in complex IT delivery environments, has spoken at UC Berkeley, Girl Geek and lectured at UTS with formal training in Prince2 and Agile methodologies. Today, Hope works with leaders and large programs within organisations, helping reduce their cyber risk with practical change management intervention strategies.

Tom Heathwood, CISO, Link Group. Tom is the CISO for the Corporate Markets division of Link Group, responsible for keeping millions of customer records safe for Link’s share registry clients. Prior to Link Group, Tom worked in complex environments for CBA and Transport for NSW, gaining international experience in cyber security, risk management, trading, and strategic planning. He is passionate about helping others to get into security and promoting better awareness of security risks across all levels of organisations.

Aparna Sundararajan, Senior Manager, CyberCX. Aparna works within the strategy and consulting practice at CyberCX and specialises in building cyber security strategy, operating models, and cyber value conversations with the board for fintech and government organisations.  Aparna has held leadership and strategy positions within EY, Gartner and ADAPT in the digital technology, data analytics and AI and cybersecurity space.  With over 16 years in IT industry, Aparna has advised CIOs, Chief Digital Officers, Chief Data Officers and CISOs across US, Europe, Asia, and Australia on building influence among the board and CEO, engaging stakeholders, creating IT and digital strategies, measuring the value of cybersecurity and evolving role of emerging technologies.

She has also partnered with CEOs and executive leadership teams to enable business growth and expansion through customer strategy revamp, new product development, go-to-market plans, and scaling operations.  Aparna is passionate about the digital future and aims to help organisations understand and execute advanced cybersecurity measures and practices while attaining their digital vision.
