AISA ACT Branch Meeting | 25 July 2024

AISA Branch Meeting
Hosted by the AISA ACT Branch and ISACA Canberra Chapter, please join us for a face-to-face meeting and networking opportunity with a live and interactive presentation and discussion on Australia's Sovereign capabilities and supply chains with guest speakers from UNSW Lecturers Dr Ripon K. Chakrabortty, Dr Hasan Turan and Dr Pankaj Sharma.

Presentation Title:
From Fragile to Fortified: Reimagining Australia’s Sovereign Capabilities and Supply Chains
The recent years have been a wake-up call for Australian supply chains. The COVID-19 pandemic exposed underlying weaknesses, and disruptions like port disputes and Red Sea attacks showcased our vulnerabilities in a globalized world. The ever-increasing complexity of global supply chains makes them susceptible to a wide range of challenges. These events have highlighted the need for Australia to become more self-reliant in securing critical goods and services.

In this series of presentations, we'll address these challenges head-on. We recognize the historical trend of deindustrialization, rising geopolitical tensions, and the ever-present threat of climate change. To navigate this complex landscape, we'll introduce proactive approaches to identify potential risks before they disrupt your business. We'll equip you with the tools to assess your preparedness and build automated decision-support systems for intelligent decision-making.

Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions of the speakers and refreshments and drinks will be served after the presentation.

Speakers:
Dr Ripon Kumar Chakrabortty is experienced in “Artificial Intelligence in Decision-Making for Complex Systems (focus: Supply Chain and Project Management)”. His research interest covers a wide range of topics in decision analytics, applied artificial intelligence, evolutionary computation, operations research, and applied optimisation in the "Project Scheduling and Supply Chain Management" domains. As an industrial engineer with a strong focus on data-driven decision-making, machine learning, deep learning models, and optimization tools, his academic contributions profoundly impact the Australian economy and society.

Dr Hasan H. Turan is a Lecturer and the Research Lead at Capability Systems Centre, University of New South Wales (UNSW Canberra). Before joining UNSW Canberra, he worked as a post-doc research fellow at Qatar University, Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department from 2015 to 2017. Dr. Turan's research interests revolve around the development and application of data-driven optimization algorithms and simulation models arising in different domains. He is currently focused on the integration of machine learning (e.g., reinforcement learning), artificial intelligence, and computational intelligence techniques (e.g., genetic algorithms) with simulation models (discrete event and system dynamics) to solve complex decision-making problems.

Dr Pankaj Sharma is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Business at UNSW Canberra. Pankaj obtained his PhD (Industrial Engineering) from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in 2017. I have over 21 years of experience handling complex logistics and maintenance operations in the Army. I was a Senior Research Fellow from 2018-2023 in the Centre for Next Generation Logistics (C4NGL) at the National University of Singapore working on the Project "Digital Twin of the Next Generation Warehouse".
