AISA Announces Board Returned Following Member Vote at Extraordinary General Meeting

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – 29 March 2017
– The Australian Information Security Association (AISA), the country’s peak body for information and cyber security professionals, has today announced the results from the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) held on Friday the 24th of March, and members have voted to return AISA’s Board of Directors.

The EGM was called in response to a petition received by the Board and while it failed to meet the requisite number of signatures, the vote was held to remove uncertainty and enable AISA to turn its full attention to a busy and productive 2017.

According to Damien Manuel, Deputy Chair of AISA, in addition to facilitating the EGM, the Board has been focused on ensuring the successful delivery of a range of events and programs throughout the year.

“AISA’s annual National Conference is the foremost event in Australia’s cyber security calendar, and this year it is promising to be another sell-out event. We are excited to have secured an amazing list of global and local speakers, and our open call for papers will be released on 31 March 2017.”

The call for papers coincides with BrisSEC17, a sold-out event that this year will focus on 'Ubiquitous Security', which will include both management and technically focused streams.

AISA has also announced that its Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held one month early in November 2017, soon after the National Conference, which it hopes will improve member participation. Formal notification of the AGM will be sent out in August 2017, providing members three months’ notice to participate.
The EGM voting process was overseen by Gilbert + Tobin Lawyers to ensure full transparency, and provide third party assurance that due process was followed.
