Exploring Today’s Top Cyber Threats in the Top End

A gathering of leading local and interstate cyber security experts will join business groups, cyber and information security practitioners and students at the Territory’s largest cyber conference ‘DarwinSEC’, to be held at the Hilton Darwin 21 September 2022.

Cybercrime is a pressing issue for all Australians, including those in the top end, with incidents increasing 13 per cent in the past year. Due to COVID-19 many Australians have been forced to work from home - with one cyber incident reported to the Centre every eight minutes (ACSC Annual Cyber Threat Report 2020-21 ).

Hosted by the Australian Information Security Association (AISA), DarwinSEC will discuss the Territory’s preparedness to deal with current cyber threats and how to best protect company operations and information - as well as how to attract, grow and retain cyber talent.

AISA General Manager, Megan Spielvogel says, “In a post-pandemic age, and for all Australians, digital adoption and innovation is reliant on online trust, confidence and resilience.”

“With the global impact of the pandemic, the war in Ukraine, the crash in the Crypto market and other global shocks, our vulnerability to cyber-attack continues to be a major issue.”

Hosted in partnership with Charles Darwin University, DarwinSEC features an expert line-up of keynote speakers, including:

  • Alex Heidenreich - Executive Director SA & NT, Cyber CX,
  • Mathew Thompson - Technical Director, Cyber Engagement & Strategy Division, JCSC Brisbane, Anthony Jones – Senior Security Consultant and Penetration Tester, Kinetic IT,
  • Ralph Waskow – Senior Security Solution Architect, Rapid7
  • Mamoun Alazab – Associate Professor at the College of Engineering, IT and Environment, Charles Darwin University

AISA continues to collaborate with the Northern Territory Government’s cyber initiatives by recently supporting their partnership with the Australian Cyber Security Centre to establish the Darwin Joint Cyber Security Outreach Service.

AISA’s DarwinSEC Conference 2022 is a must attend event on the Northern Territory’s information technology and cyber security calendar.

The Northern Territory Government is a key sponsor of DarwinSEC and works collaboratively with AISA to improve cyber security in the Territory.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Corporate and Digital Development, Hon Ngaree Ah Kit MLA:

“DarwinSEC is an important event bringing the sector together to share experiences and knowledge to build awareness.

“The cyber security sector has a key role to play in supporting the broader business community to strengthen cyber security against the increasing threat landscape.

“All organisations should consider their cyber security risk and apply measures to protect their enterprise and reduce the impact of an attack.

“Congratulations to AISA on the conference. I look forward to continuing the partnership between AISA and the NTG to support cyber sector activities and community cyber security awareness.”
